Using Whitening Gel for a Bright, White, Smile

There are many things that can cause stains to develop in the enamel of the teeth in your smile. Stain enamel can be caused by the natural processes of aging, tobacco use of simply enjoying dark food and drinks, on a regular basis. How deeply the stains penetrate the enamel of your teeth will determine The particular whitening product and procedure needed to give you effectively whiten your smile.

You should talk to Dr. Sohrab Saghezchi before starting any whitening program. It’s important to find a whitening program that will meet your teeth whitening goals, while preserving good long term oral health.

If the teeth in your smile are moderately stained they can sometimes be improved by using a retail level whitening gel. Whitening gels usually use one of two whitening agents. Either concentrated hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide in concentrations that make them stronger than the whitening agents in whitening toothpaste or strips.

Applying whitening gel is easy. You simply pour a little into the trays provided and insert them into your mouth. If any of the whitening gel gets on your gums, you should remove it as soon as possible with a clean cotton swab.

Keep in mind that the concentration of whitening agents in whitening gels will only be strong enough to brighten minor surface stains on teeth. Deeply stained teeth, will require stronger measures. Dr. Sohrab Saghezchi offers a dental bleaching procedure that can whiten deep stains safely and effectively.
