The Treatment Steps Involved in Dental Implant Placement
posted: Oct. 15, 2018.
Dental implant treatment in Mill Valley, California, can be a little complicated, but it’s not as difficult as you might think.
To help you know what to expect with dental implant treatment, our Mill Valley Dental team is happy to tell you about the three steps involved. Those three steps are:
Step 1: First, your dentist will thoroughly examine your oral cavity by taking a series of X-rays. This examination is extremely helpful because it informs your dentist on the health, strength, and condition of your teeth, gums, and bones.
Step 2: To begin treatment, you will be sent to an oral surgeon. The surgeon will place a small titanium post in the bone socket of your missing tooth. The bone will then need to heal around the post to secure it in place. This could take six to twelve weeks.
Step 3: Once your bone has healed, your dentist will attach an abutment to the post. The abutment will hold the replacement tooth in place. Then, your dentist will create a dental crown that is perfect for you. When it’s ready, it will be placed over the abutment.
Once you complete these three steps, you will have a strong, beautiful, and functional tooth for a lifetime.
